Encourages museums that are engaging with sensitive or controversial human rights themes to share ways of working, new thinking and initiatives in a supportive environment.
FIHRM – International Federation of Human Rights Museums – was founded in 2010 in the Liverpool International Slavery Museum (UK), which was its first headquarters. With an international character since its conception, it is currently coordinated from the Museum of Democracy in the Argentine Republic.
The Federation enables museums that address perpetually relevant and necessary themes like human rights to respect historical memory, commit to the present, and look towards the future by working together and sharing new ideas and initiatives in a supportive environment. The initiative's spirit is rooted in the belief that all museums in this field face similar challenges when addressing fundamental and complex issues, as these institutions engage with and intervene in contemporary forms of racism, abuse, and discrimination
The Federation aims to work proactively and collectively. We firmly believe that working together is more effective in addressing these issues. We are an open and free network that invites the participation of individuals, institutions, museums, research groups and companies related to museology.
This is one of the events organised by the Federation, where professionals, academics, activists and others interested in the field of human rights museums meet to discuss relevant issues, share research, present initiatives and foster international dialogue. This meeting provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences, as well as for establishing collaborations that strengthen the work of museums in promoting human rights at a global level.
FIHRM's Research Area has been created to support, make visible and strengthen the work carried out by our network and its members. We are responsible for collecting and disseminating the research generated during FIHRM's global conferences, promoting transparency and demonstrating the impact of our initiatives.
If you are interested in joining the debate and learning collaboratively, we invite you to join us as a member.
